‘The Odyssey’

Odyssey (noun) “a long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience.”

A fitting name, given that this painting took three years to complete. But it’s more than a piece of art, it’s objectively a witness to my personal and professional journey masked in each painting layer and petals.

Creatively, it was the painting that repelled me from picking up a paintbrush, to the one that pulled me out of a rut. Ultimately, it reignited my creative practice and challenged my perseverance which led to a new wave of commissioned paintings.

Personally, it was the piece that saw the start of COVID lockdowns, and with that, the time to follow creative pursuits. Then came the master's degree in 2021 before entering the workforce: first as a policy impact researcher to an environmental consultant in London in 2022.

I finished the painting back home in Wales, after leaving my consultancy job and the city behind after 2 years, and carried it with me to my new life in Sydney before Christmas 2024.

This piece has seen a lot. It’s soaked in moments of revelations, change, and growth.

A true odyssey — in every sense of the word.
